At Droneit, we are proud to lead the audiovisual construction progress monitoring of the exciting transformation of Barcelona’s Port Olímpic. With a meticulous approach, we are capturing every phase of the redevelopment in preparation for the America’s Cup.
Using a range of resources such as time-lapse cameras, camera filming and the agility of our drones, we carry out regular flights and filming sessions to capture the progress of this landmark project, showing every change and advance with precision. From aerial views to the closest details, we set out to document visually the transformation of this iconic port and the work invested in its renovation.
Construction progress monitoring
Commissioned by Barcelona City Council, Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) has taken on an ambitious challenge: redeveloping the Port Olímpic into a space integrated with the community. A renewed area is being built where the maritime economy, sailing, gastronomy and the sea will come together at the heart of the city’s economic and social activity.
The Port Olímpic set out on this journey with a clear goal: the America’s Cup sailing competition. In line with this major event being held in Barcelona in 2024, works began to turn the port into a new meeting point between the city and the sea. High-quality public spaces, a revitalised connection with the surroundings and a sea-based economic boost are the cornerstones of this new path towards reinventing the Port Olímpic.
The 4 main changes
URBAN SPACE:
A new access route linking Avinguda del Litoral with the Mestral Quay creates a seamless connection between the port and the Vila Olímpica neighbourhood, fostering a close-knit, lively atmosphere. From the enlarged squares on the Mestral Quay to the opening of the Gregal Quay towards Nova Icària beach, every aspect of this transformation focuses on strengthening the dialogue between the port, the coastline and the city, creating a space that reflects the dynamic and diverse character of Barcelona.

BLUE ECONOMY:
The Port Olímpic is becoming a hub of innovation and economic activity, combining business dynamism with marine sustainability. This pioneering approach seeks not only to reactivate the city’s economy but also to promote the conservation of marine ecosystems. With an emphasis on the blue economy, the port is positioning itself as a hub for companies committed to sustainability, specialising in recreational water sports, innovative services, technology and the circular economy.

SAILING:
With the aim of bringing maritime activity closer to the public, a range of works has been undertaken to improve the infrastructure and ensure a safe and rewarding experience for users. Reinforcing the breakwater and modernising the pontoons and moorings are tangible examples of this commitment. Sustainability is also encouraged through incentives for environmentally friendly vessels. The complete transformation of the Municipal Sailing Centre is in line with the goal of expanding the range of services and promoting sport.

GASTRONOMY:
The launch of a new dining area at the Port Olímpic marks a milestone in the revitalisation of the area, offering a varied, high-quality food scene that showcases the best of local cuisine. The Balcón Gastronómico, located on the Gregal Quay, will be the centrepiece of this unique culinary experience. With eleven restaurants and three gourmet spaces, the Port Olímpic is set to become a new gastronomic landmark in the city, inviting residents and visitors to reconnect with the sea while enjoying exceptional and diverse cuisine.
