At Droneit we had the pleasure of monitoring the construction of the Airbus A380 dismantling hangar at Teruel Airport. Our work covered construction time-lapse, drone filming for construction and drone photogrammetry, documenting the progress of the works accurately and in detail over more than eight months.

Comprehensive site monitoring

  • For this project, Spantech International required a comprehensive construction progress monitoring system to ensure efficient, detailed oversight of the construction of the dismantling hangar.
  • The client needed to capture the progress of the works in exceptional quality. To do so, we used 24MP DSLR cameras, adapted to the specific requirements of the project.
  • Real-time viewing of the site was crucial for the project management team. We therefore set up a 24/7 live view system, accessible from any device through the VisionHub platform.

The client also requested regular filming to complement the visual monitoring of construction progress. Drone flights were carried out every 15 days. This footage was captured as a 4D construction time-lapse, a format in which shots are repeated periodically from the same position and along the same path, so that post-production can show the project’s evolution in a dynamic, engaging way. We also flew an FPV drone to give a dynamic view of the project, and carried out several drone photogrammetry surveys to provide an overall view of the project at each phase.

In addition to the aerial filming, the client required ground-level filming, capturing detail shots of progress at surface level. This footage offered a closer, more detailed perspective that was key to documenting certain milestones and processes of the project.

Finally, the client needed architectural photography to document the key phases of construction and provide a complete visual archive of the project. The images were used both for progress reports and for promoting and visually documenting the works.

Challenges and team

One of the main challenges of the project was managing aviation permits. Operating inside Teruel Airport meant coordinating repeatedly with the airport, adapting our flight times to its operating hours and planning drone flights well in advance to ensure they were carried out correctly.

Droneit has a highly qualified team across all its departments. The technical department handled the installation and daily supervision of the time-lapse equipment, making sure it worked correctly throughout the process. Our drone pilots are certified professionals, holding all the current qualifications required to operate in any setting.
